A DREAM IN THE MAKING:
COMPLEX PHILANTHOPIQUE, SOURCE COROSSOL, LEOGANE, HAITI
In 1985, Fernande Valme began laying the seeds for the construction and development of a multi service center in Haiti. She targeted a locality where the support of the population was dire. The lack of any plan for school, health care and other basic was critical and is bleak for the new generation of children in the area. The Center’s development began with the establishment of a primary school that now allows access to education to over 200 students every year. Over 1500 children have had the opportunity to learn how to read and move on to other level of education. Long before the inauguration of the building named after her, there was a young woman whose commitment and dedication to others knew no boundaries. Amid many daunting strives, alone with 7 children she received her calling “to serve others". Although she had little, not even shelter for her children, her faith was challenged and she would not wane. Her legacy will be that of heeding the words of Mathew 24, to visit the sick, to feed the hungry, to provide support and bring unto the Lord, the burden of others. Fernande Valme at the tender age of 21, began her ministry. She is tireless developing a response to those in need in Brooklyn. She did not forget those she left behind in her country of Birth, Haiti. The purpose of the complex is one of creating opportunity while improving the infant mortality rate and giving each child a chance for a full life and opportunity through primary school, potential training for a skill that would improve his/her survival. Brick by Brick we can all join Sister Valme to bring hope to hundreds of families, thousands of children, building a whole community. We need you to make a difference in the lives of so many
